By increasing focal length by a factor of 2x, a compatible 300mm lens becomes a 600mm equivalent focal length, while a 400mm lens becomes 800mm, making the Extender EF 2x III especially useful for distant subjects where extra reach is critical. Canon engineered the third-generation extender with improved optical performance, refined lens coatings and optimised communication between the lens and camera body to maintain metering, autofocus support where compatible, image stabilisation operation and EXIF information transmission. Its optical design is built to help control chromatic aberration and preserve contrast and sharpness as effectively as possible when increasing magnification, while the durable professional construction is designed to complement Canon’s L-series telephoto lenses. The 2x magnification results in a two-stop reduction in maximum aperture, so an f/2.8 lens becomes effectively f/5.6 and an f/4 lens becomes f/8, making good light and compatible autofocus performance important considerations. Compact and easy to carry, the Canon Extender EF 2x III is an excellent second-hand accessory for photographers who already own compatible Canon EF telephoto glass and want significantly more reach for wildlife, birding, motorsport, aviation and field sports without carrying a second long lens.

Key Features:

2x Focal Length Magnification – Doubles the focal length of a compatible Canon EF telephoto or super-telephoto lens, providing significantly greater reach for distant subjects.

300mm Becomes 600mm – A compatible 300mm lens effectively becomes a 600mm lens when used with the Extender EF 2x III, making it highly useful for wildlife and bird photography.

400mm Becomes 800mm – A compatible 400mm lens can be extended to an effective 800mm focal length, giving photographers substantially more reach from fixed shooting positions.

Ideal for Wildlife Photography – The 2x magnification factor makes it easier to fill the frame with distant animals while remaining further away from the subject.

Excellent for Bird Photography – Particularly useful for small or distant birds where maximum telephoto reach is often more important than compact size.

Great for Sports &
