The RF mount's 12-pin communication enables high-speed data transfer between the camera and lens, facilitating faster autofocus and a new Combination IS system. This system integrates the electronic IS of the camera with the optical IS of an RF lens, offering enhanced image stabilization. RF lenses feature the same large 54mm internal diameter as EF lenses but with a reduced flange distance of just 20mm from the mount to the camera sensor, less than half the distance of the EF mount.
