K&F 95MM VARIABLE ND FILTER (VND) ND2-ND400 NANO-X
The K&F 95mm Variable ND Filter (VND) ND2-ND400 Nano-X is a premium variable neutral density filter designed for photographers, videographers and professional content creators who need precise, convenient control over exposure when working in bright or changing lighting conditions. Offering an adjustable 1 to 9 stops of light reduction, equivalent to a density range of ND2 to ND400 (0.3–2.7), the filter allows the amount of light entering a 95mm lens to be controlled simply by rotating the outer ring, effectively adding another powerful exposure-control tool alongside aperture, shutter speed and ISO. For photographers, this makes it possible to use slower shutter speeds in daylight to create intentional motion blur in moving water, clouds, traffic and other subjects, or to maintain wide apertures for shallow depth of field when ambient light would normally force the lens to be stopped down. For videographers, the variable density provides an efficient way to maintain a preferred aperture, ISO and cinematic shutter speed while adapting to changing light levels without constantly swapping fixed ND filters. As part of K&F Concept's premium Nano-X Series, the filter uses high-precision Japanese AGC optical glass with double-sided polishing designed to maintain high-definition image quality suitable for demanding capture resolutions up to 8K. The glass receives 28 layers of multi-layer coating across its surfaces to help reduce reflections and glare, improve light transmission, minimise ghosting and provide water- and scratch-resistant protection. A precision-machined aluminium alloy frame measures only approximately 7.4mm thick, helping maintain a slim, lightweight profile, while the textured construction and distinctive orange rotation tab provide improved grip and finer control when adjusting filter density. The filter is also double threaded for additional mounting flexibility and includes calibration markings to assist with repeatable adjustments. Supplied with a protective PU leatherette filter case, the K&F 95mm ND2-ND400 Nano-X Variable ND Filter is an exceptionally versatile exposure-control accessory for landscape photography, long exposures, portraiture, filmmaking, interviews, weddings, automotive work, outdoor productions and professional content creation where fast, flexible light management is essential.
Key Features:
- 95mm Variable Neutral Density Filter – Designed for lenses with a 95mm front filter thread, providing photographers and videographers with adjustable light reduction without having to continually change between multiple fixed-strength ND filters.
- Variable 1–9 Stop Light Reduction – Provides approximately 1 to 9 stops of adjustable light reduction, giving users extensive control over exposure across a wide variety of bright and changing lighting conditions.
- ND2 to ND400 Variable Density Range – Offers a broad ND2–ND400 range, allowing the filter to transition from relatively light filtration through to substantial light reduction by rotating the outer filter ring.
- 0.3–2.7 Optical Density Range – The variable filtration corresponds to an optical density range of approximately 0.3 to 2.7, providing substantial flexibility for both still photography and filmmaking.
- Precise Exposure Control – Restricts the amount of light reaching the camera sensor, allowing photographers and filmmakers to choose exposure settings based on their desired creative result rather than being limited entirely by bright ambient conditions.
- Additional Creative Exposure Tool – Functions almost like an additional exposure control alongside shutter speed, aperture and ISO, allowing light entering the lens to be adjusted without immediately changing the camera's primary exposure settings.
- Ideal for Bright Daylight Photography – Particularly useful when shooting at beaches, deserts, salt flats, open landscapes and other extremely bright locations where available light can otherwise restrict creative exposure choices.
- Longer Shutter Speeds in Daylight – Reducing incoming light allows photographers to select slower shutter speeds in conditions where the resulting exposure would otherwise be too bright.
- Create Creative Motion Blur – Longer exposure times can intentionally blur moving subjects such as flowing water, waterfalls, clouds, traffic and people while stationary elements remain comparatively sharp.
- Excellent for Landscape Photography – Gives landscape photographers additional control over shutter speed and exposure, making it easier to create smooth water, moving clouds and other long-exposure effects during daylight.
- Maintain Wide Apertures in Bright Conditions – Reducing incoming light allows photographers to continue using large apertures such as f/1.4, f/1.8 or f/2.8 in bright conditions where the image could otherwise become overexposed.
- Create Shallow Depth of Field Outdoors – Particularly useful for portraits, products and creative filmmaking where the photographer or filmmaker wants a softly blurred background while working under strong daylight.
- Excellent for Portrait Photography – Allows photographers to maintain wider apertures outdoors for greater subject separation and attractive background blur without relying solely on extremely high shutter speeds.
- Powerful Tool for Videographers – Provides convenient exposure control for video when shutter speed is being kept relatively constant according to the desired frame rate and motion characteristics.
- Maintain a Cinematic Shutter Speed – Allows videographers to reduce incoming light rather than drastically increasing shutter speed, helping maintain the desired natural-looking motion blur in bright environments.
- Control Aperture During Video Recording – The variable ND can effectively serve as an additional exposure control, allowing filmmakers to maintain their preferred aperture and depth of field while compensating for changes in ambient light.
- Fast Adjustment for Changing Light – Instead of repeatedly removing and replacing fixed ND filters, users can rotate the filter to increase or decrease light reduction as conditions change.
- Ideal for Run-and-Gun Filmmaking – Variable filtration is particularly useful for documentaries, events, weddings, travel productions and other situations where lighting conditions can change quickly and there may be limited time to swap filters.
- Excellent for Outdoor Video Production – Provides filmmakers with additional exposure flexibility for interviews, commercial productions, automotive filming, travel videos, social media content and other outdoor productions.
- Designed for High-Resolution Capture – The Nano-X Series optical construction is designed to maintain high image quality for demanding modern photo and video applications, including high-resolution capture up to 8K.
- Japanese AGC Optical Glass – Manufactured using high-precision Japanese AGC optical glass selected to provide strong optical clarity and minimise unnecessary degradation of image quality.
- Double-Sided Precision Polishing – The optical glass undergoes precision polishing on both sides to help maintain high-definition image reproduction and consistent optical performance.
- 28-Layer Multi-Coating – Uses a sophisticated multi-layer coating system with 28 coating layers to improve optical performance and provide additional protection to the filter surfaces.
- Reduced Reflections – Multi-layer coatings help minimise unwanted internal reflections that could otherwise reduce contrast or negatively affect image quality.
- Anti-Glare Performance – Optical coatings help control glare when working in strong or challenging lighting conditions.
- Improved Light Transmission – The coating system is designed to improve effective transmission through the filter while maintaining the required neutral-density reduction.
- Helps Minimise Ghosting – Advanced optical coatings assist in reducing unwanted ghosting and reflections that can occur when additional glass surfaces are positioned in front of the lens.
- Water-Resistant Coating – Hydrophobic outer coatings help repel water from the filter surface, making the filter easier to manage during outdoor photography and location filmmaking.
- Scratch-Resistant Surface Coating – Protective outer coatings help improve resistance against minor scratches associated with regular handling, cleaning and transportation.
- Built for Outdoor Photography – Water-resistant coatings, durable construction and broad exposure control make the filter particularly useful for landscape, travel, adventure and outdoor photographers.
- Premium Nano-X Series Construction – Part of K&F Concept's Nano-X filter range, combining high-quality optical glass, advanced coatings and precision metal construction for demanding photography and video applications.
- Slim 7.4mm Frame – The aluminium alloy filter frame measures approximately 7.4mm thick, maintaining a relatively slim profile despite the variable-density mechanism.

- Professional Exposure Control for 95mm Lenses – Particularly valuable for larger professional lenses that use a 95mm filter thread, giving users broad variable-density control from one filter.
- Dark X Effect Awareness – As with variable ND filters that operate through cross-polarisation, a dark X-shaped pattern can potentially become visible at extreme density settings depending on the lens, focal length and shooting conditions.
- Dark X Is Not Necessarily a Filter Defect – The cross pattern that can occur near extreme variable-ND settings is a characteristic associated with the cross-polarisation principle used by this type of filter rather than automatically indicating faulty optical glass.
- Easy Adjustment if Cross-Polarisation Appears – If a dark X pattern becomes visible, rotating the filter away from the extreme density position can reduce or eliminate the effect in many shooting situations.
- Alternative for Users Requiring a Restricted Range – Users specifically requiring a variable ND designed around avoiding the extreme dark-X region may consider K&F's more restricted ND8-ND128 3–7 stop option instead.
- PU Leatherette Protective Case Included – Supplied with a dedicated protective case to help keep the filter protected from dust, scratches and contact with other equipment while being transported or stored.
- Magnetic Flip-Cover Case – The included case uses a convenient magnetic cover for straightforward opening and closing while keeping the filter protected when not in use.
